Hey Friends! With all of those who are now working from home, and have kids out of school. I know it can get overwhelming with all that needs to be done. I want to share an easy, free tool I use to keep my week on track. I use Trello to organize my week for my business, but I also am using it to keep track of the kids work for the weeks ahead too!

Let’s get started!!

What is Trello?

Trello is an online list-making software that uses boards, lists and cards in an organized manner to keep track of anything and everything.  You can even use the app on your phone. It has a free option that is extremely robust. They do have a paid version for teams and businesses that want to take it up a notch. But for this post, we will be using the free version I use in my business.

This software uses Boards > Lists > Cards, in that order. I am OCD when it comes to organizing and love to take notes in my notebooks (I have 3 on my desk right now).

I have come to notice that as my business grows (and for those new to working from home) taking notes on paper is fine, but I needed a place to keep all those notes and tasks in one place…enter Trello.

How does Trello work?

It’s super easy. I started using Trello a while ago, but just recently had an aha moment when I created my Weekly Business Planner Board.

I created the board, with a pretty on-brand background (you can use any image or color you like).

Then I started to create my Lists. Each List is a column that holds the cards/tasks you are working on and you can click and drag them as you need to.

As you can see it is pretty simple to set up, I have my top Priority tasks first ( I call them Client Onboarding Tasks) and it is the first thing I see when I log in to the board.

Then I create the daily task lists: Monday > Friday, Urgent weekend Projects, and Completed Tasks. When I go through the week I can click and drag those cards along. If they get completed they move to the completed list.

You can always archive a card when completed, but I like to look back at some of them and evaluate how it went, like will I need to change the checklist or workflow on the card.

Checklists and Due Dates

Each card has the option to Add in checklists and a due date and you can assign it to someone on your team, if you have a biz, or make it a list for your kids to do.

Say you have a call or meeting, create a card, add the date and time and place it on the day of the week that it is scheduled. You can use the checklist on a task like this to remind you of the things you need for the call. You can add the link (if it’s a video/Zoom call) in the Description. Or you can even add attachments of files, images, etc. Use the Activity section to make your notes, or if you are working with someone on this particular task, you can invite them in the “Members” tab, and make comments about the project.

  • Grocery lists
